Do You Zoom?

May 28, 2021

“Let’s have a Zoom!”

You may heard this very often during these stay-at-home, learn-from-home and work-from-home days, and you definitely wouldn’t think that the word “zoom” relates to any quick movement or the close-up or long shot of camera, but an online call or meeting session.

Zoom, as a video conferencing software, has risen during the Covid-19 social distancing period as one of the top (if not the topmost), in the Malaysia market, as well as in the rest of the world.

Zoom has provided a number of interesting features to enhance the video conferencing experience of the customers, and they have a good patenting strategy to protect these technologies too. They have filed patents on various technical features, including the method and apparatus for capturing a group photo with a countdown signal, method and system for facilitating high-fidelity audio sharing, and unique watermark generation which enables detection of the source of Zoom recording, etc.

With the continuous innovation of Zoom Video Communications and other big communication companies during these social distancing covid-days, we believe that the once “matured” video conferencing industry as well as the number of patent applications in this field will continue to boom.

The Patent of Coffee Capsules

May 24, 2021
Who doesn't like to have the aroma of coffee as part of our morning ritual?

Today, if we would like to have a little more refined cup of espresso closer to the freshly ground, we may choose either a machine brewed coffee capsule or a hand brewed drip coffee. It is said that the coffee capsule is an invention developed by the Father of Coffee Capsule, Eric Favre, because of his wife's little tease about the Swiss bland coffee. Hence he decided to prove to his wife that he is capable of making the ultimate espresso, and here comes the coffee capsules which have then become popular all over the world in recent years.

Let's ake a look at the first patent drawing of the coffee capsule invention by Mr Favre in 1976 (picture from published patent document FR2372008), you will see that the capsules today has been greatly evolved.

Madrid Protocol - Your gateway to global brand registration is soon open!

Nov 7, 2019
Malaysia has recently acceded to the Madrid System in September 2019. This is a great news for all of us, especially for local entrepreneurs or brand owners who intend to pursue their international trade mark applications and bring their brands globally!
With a single application and single fee, local brand owners can now protect their trade marks in multiple countries of interest (up to over 120 Madrid member countries at this point of time). Similarly, foreign brand owners can also seek their trade mark protection via the same system in a more convenient way in Malaysia.
We are excited about this massive change to our trade mark system. Let’s look forward to this inspiring transformation in this coming December! Do contact us if you would like to know more.
